BIOGRAD N/M
In an area that is so full of natural marvels,
it is hardly possible to pick up out the one jewel other
things that glitter. May however see it is in the crown
fashioned of 147 silvery fragments in the unique, and
mysterious Kornati archipelago to which Biograd n/m is
the genuine doorway. In this paradise there is MARINA
KORNATI.
In the Mediterranean, which gave birth to all
the gods and the essential things of Western
civilisation, temporal relations can hardly be measured
by mainland chronometers. It is hardly to be wondered
at, then, that the town of Biograd n/m has been keeping
humankind company for three millennia by now, as well as
by the Croats, who for the last 13 centuries have been
looking after the continuity of Mediterranean culture in
its Adriatic variant in the area, this has been engraved
into the memory of the town by the Eastern Goths, the
Romans, the Greeks and the Illyrian Liburnian people.
Biograd n/m underwent its greatest flowering
when it was capital of the medieval Croatian kings, with
the King of Croatia and Hungary, Koloman, being actually
crowned in the city 1102. There are a great many
fascinating memories of the rich and stormy history of
the region of Biograd n/m kept in the superbly
interesting local museum. Of the ancient buildings of
Biograd n/m only the Basilica of St. John (11th century)
survived the Venetian sacking of the town in 1125. On
the other hand, on the nearby island of Pasman there is
still the 800 year old monastery of St. Kuzma and St.
Damjan, as well as the slightly more recent (14th
century) Franciscan monastery of St. Dujam. In
neighbouring Vrana the medieval walls of the Knights
Templar still defy time together with the Turkish
caravansary in Maskovic, talking volumes of the clash of
civilisations that occurred not so long ago, and so far
away from the coast of the Adriatic and the town of
Biograd n/m.
Located within easy reach of Split and Zadar
airports, and brought close to the centre of Europe by
good roads, hardly ten hours away by car or bus, the
Biograd n/m of today draws its vital energy from the
attractions of the surroundings that make it an alluring
destination for those looking for a comfortable holiday
in unadulterated nature. In response , up-to-date
accommodation has been built, capacity-wise dominated by
privately owned villas, apartments and by camps, and in
terms of variety of facilities by the Adriatic, Ilirija
and Kornati Hotels, with the Crvena Luka tourist village
and the Biograd Motel.
Although Biograd n/m can certainly please
guests who spend their days best at night, it is the sea
and the sun that are real holiday-making trump cards of
this white city (the meaning of the Biograd). The long
Pasman Channel is an ideal place for wind-surfing and
all other kinds of fun on, in or under the sea. The
extra-terrestrial Kornati Islands are certainly a heaven
for yachtsmen, and can be reached fastest and easiest
from the contemporary Biograd marinas of Kornati and
Sangulin with a total of a thousand moorings.
[Image] This city in the centre of the Adriatic is
literally a promised land for people who want to revel
in a crystal clear sea and yet prefer a dynamic and
interesting vacation. For this kind of guest, the people
of Biograd n/m have in recent years constructed 20
tennis courts, and also introduced many more things of a
sporting and entertainment nature, and also brought the
infrastructure of their endless beaches up to date . In
a world, the diversity of what is on offer is a
guarantee to holidaymakers that they can find whatever
is precisely to their taste.
The vicinity of national parks at sea (Kornati
archipelago), in the mountains (Paklenica on Mt.
Velebit), on a river (the Falls of Krka) and on the
lakes (Plitvice), of a nature park (Telascica on Dugi
otok, or Long Island), the very close vicinity of Vrana
Lake, richly stocked with fish, its shores teeming with
water birds, all give visitors to Biograd n/m the chance
to take trips into dream-landscapes, from which they
will go back convinced that Biograd n/m must be the
capital city of the natural wonders of the world.
